Who is Lovlina Borgohain? & what she did?
Lovlina Borgohain is an Arjun Award Winner Indian Boxer under the 69 kg welterweight category. Borgohain is the same Indian boxer who won the bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She also won the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Lovlina Bogohain won a gold medal at Open International Boxing Championship(Tournament) in New Delhi. She won a Silver medal at the same tournament again that was held in Guwahati. She is the very first woman from Assam that qualify for the Olympics games. Lovlina Borgohain is the 2nd boxer from Assam after Shiva Thapa to represent Assam.
Currently, Borgohain is in Japan at Tokyo Olympics Games. She assured a Tokyo Olympics medal by qualifying Semifinals of the 69 kg welterweight Category. The Medal can be bronze, silver or if she played well it can be gold for Borgohain as well as for India. Early Life Of Indian Boxer Lovlina
Lovlina was born on 2 October 1997 and hails from the Golaghat district of Assam. Her father’s name is Tiken and her Mother’s name is Mamoni Borgohain. Her father Tiken is a small businessman and struggles financially to support his daughter’s ambition. His older twin sisters Licha and Lima also competed at the national level in kickboxing but did not progress beyond that.
Lovlina also started her career as a kickboxer, but later switched to boxing when she got an opportunity to do so. Sports Authority of India conducted trials at her high school Barpathar Girls High School, where Lovlina participated. He was noticed and picked up by renowned coach Padum Boro, who started training him in 2012. He was later coached by Sandhya Gurung.
Borgohain Boxing Career
The biggest break of Lovlina’s career came when she was selected to participate in the 2018 Commonwealth Games welterweight boxing category. However, his announcement was a matter of controversy as it was revealed that he had not received any official intimation about his selection. She came to know about her selection after the story surfaced in a major media outlet. At the Commonwealth Games, she lost to UK’s Sandy Ryan in the quarterfinals. Sandy Ryan eventually won the gold medal in that category.
Lovina’s selection at CWG 2018 was attributed to her success. She won the inaugural India Open international boxing championship held in February 2018. Where she won a gold medal in the welterweight category. He also won a bronze medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in Vietnam in November 2017. And the President’s Cup was held in Astana in June 2017. She later won a silver medal at the Ulaanbaatar Cup in Mongolia in June 2018.
