Google Pixel Fold could be launched by the end of 2021
The much-hyped Google Pixel Fold is more likely to arrive this year and could include several other foldable phones. This is going according to a report, which claims to have inside knowledge of a suite of phone brands that will opt to use Ultra-Thin Glass for their upcoming foldable handsets. These phones are reportedly the so-called Pixel Fold, Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2, foldable phones from Oppo and Vivo, and a handset from Honor unofficially dubbed the Magic Fold.
According to The Rumors, most of these phones will be released in the second half of the year. We have no way of verifying this and the claim may sound a bit ambitious, so take it shilly-shally.
Given that the first foldable phones came from Chinese brands. It’s no surprise that the likes of Oppo and Vivo are embracing the factor. But Google’s move into foldable is more intriguing, considering its latest phone, the Google Pixel 5. It has been kept relatively safe in terms of smartphone innovation. But rumors about the Pixel Fold are heating up and now Elec reports that it will sport a 7.6-inch screen when folded.

Specs Of Upcoming Google Pixel Fold
What form factor it will take is unclear, as do other possible specs. But as the Samsung Galaxy Z is tipped to use a UTG like the Fold 2, we wouldn’t be surprised to see that the Pixel Fold has a design that’s closer to Samsung’s current foldable. There is a chance that it may adopt a wrap-around design like the Huawei Mate X.
Regardless of the design, it’s more likely that we’ll see some sort of foldable phone from Google this year. This is interesting because it means that Google could essentially be at the forefront of designing and optimizing Android for dual-screen devices.
Samsung has already made a lot of progress with the software for its foldable phones. But having a version of Android to run on foldable phones should pave the way for other brands to make foldable without substantial user interface customization.
2021 Is the year of Foldable phones
Talking about the other foldable phones mentioned in the report of The Elec, then they can also be quite interesting. The Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold 2 is likely to sport an 8.01-inch inner screen and a 6.52-inch outer display. While Vivo’s foldable is also rumored to have an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch outer display. Meanwhile, the Honor Magic Fold will reportedly feature an 8.03-inch internal display and a 6.45-inch external display of the same size. Lastly, The Elec reports that Oppo will also have a 7.1-inch foldable phone, complete with a 5.45-inch external screen. Although that apparently isn’t going to come until sometime in 2022.
If this information is correct, then we can see many more foldable phones in the market in the next six to 12 months. The Chinese brand is selling these phones in the US. or UK It is not clear whether to send them or not. But more foldable phones mean that more technology, performance materials, and manufacturing processes are likely to evolve together. Which could mean that the cost of making foldable goes down and thus makes such phones cheaper.
According to the rumors so far, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 could be cheaper than its competitors. Which is priced between $1,660 and $1,750. So we may be nearing the time when foldable phones hit the $1,000 mark. We’ll know more about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 soon. As they are tipped for the August 11th Unpacked event. And they could be the tip of the spear for the foldable-loaded spearhead in the second half of 2021.
